Lizzy Bentley combines strategies from filmmaking and interaction design to craft the stories of clients’ brands and sculpt the emotional journeys of clients’ users. Bentley has provided support to The Information Architecture Institute, General Communications Inc., Minga and several other LA based start-ups. She also gives training to UXers and digital agencies on applying screenwriting techniques to digital design experiences.
An award winning screenwriter and producer, Bentley’s films have been honored at Cannes, Sundance, the Berlinale, the Film Society of Lincoln Center and MoMA and have been broadcast on HBO, the Sundance Channel and SyFy. For her screenplay NANKING, Bentley was nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award and short-listed for an Academy Award in the Documentary category in 2007.
Working with non-fiction material for the majority of her career, Bentley has developed many strategies for crafting dramatic arcs out of available and fragmentary information. These narrative challenges led Bentley to an on-going exploration of the relationship between data, meaning and dramatic structure. Combining her UX and film practice generates great opportunities for exchange and innovation in both fields where she offers content creation, strategy, research and training services.
Bentley received her B.A. from Harvard University and her M.F.A. from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema and Television.
